Our Endeavour

Post Independence, majority of the population in India was suffering from poverty. In the mid-‘60s came the ‘Green Revolution’ which changed the course of Agricultural practices in India by the introduction of farm machinery, irrigation facilities, High Yielding Variety Seeds (HYV seeds), pesticides, insecticides and fertilizers. Though the production costs increased, it did not curtail the wide spread adoption of these new found methods or the so-called “Industrialization of Agriculture” as the yield of crops like rice and wheat got doubled and trebled through the usage of high-yielding seed varieties. With the agricultural export of rice and wheat increasing, India suddenly emerged as a power to reckon with in the international arena and nevertheless Agriculture became the backbone of Indian economy.

But on the downside, the investment intensive nature of these agricultural practices turned the tables against the poor farmers and made them face an unfair competition. The rich began to become richer and the poor poorer, and so in many ways the Green Revolution sowed the seeds for the growing economic divide in India. It is only ironic that in today’s world, Organic farming has become an expensive proposition when compared to conventional farming. The Industrialization of Agriculture also posed a major threat to biodiversity in Indian food crops which is evident from the decline in the variety of pulses, millets, sorghum, maize and barley that used to be cultivated during the pre-‘Green Revolution’ era.

This shift from the large variety of whole grains to rice and wheat, not just happened on the cultivation fields, but also on the food plates of the citizenry. And India now being recognized as the Diabetic capital of the world can be attributed to the carbohydrate-rich diet of the people. Also some scientific studies attribute the increasing incidence rates of various types of cancer among Indian populace to the chemical-based farming practices that has been followed since the Green revolution. Many other health complications in India, such as blood pressure, renal failure, digestive disorders, and joint pain can also be attributed to the extensive usage of farm chemicals. Now looking back, we could draw an analogy from the ‘Hare and Tortoise race’, wherein India has chosen to become the hare with the Green revolution. Maybe it could have remained the tortoise which it previously was.

We at MUD-TO-GUT Supply Chain Services, are committed to pave the way for the reversal of the Indian Agricultural scenario from conventional chemical-based farming to traditional organic farming.

Our Approach

Credibility is the vehicle that carries a strategy from Conceptualization stage to Implementation stage. The core-competency of MUD-TO-GUT Supply Chain Services is its ability to conduct feasibility analysis of the strategy that it proposes. A unique, first of its kind, supply chain simulator tool called ‘Supple’ has been developed for analyzing and optimizing the Supply Chain Network design that is structured based on our Supply Chain Strategy.

Value Proposition

Upon implementation, our Supply Chain Strategy has the potential to yield the following benefits:

Economic Benefits: (Realized immediately)

  • Makes available, Organic fresh produce at the cost of their Inorganic counterparts.

Social Benefits: (Realized in a short period of time)

  • Encourages rural development.
  • Encourages Entrepreneurship.

Environmental Benefits: (Realized in the long term)

  • Prevents desertification of soil and improves soil health by helping them grow in Organic content.
  • Levels out the differences between urban cities and rural areas by triggering redistribution of population between them and bringing about uniform population distribution in the long run.

Note: Greater the scale of implementation, better the results.
